A brother or sister can be relevant to some Australian visas, but there is no general “brother visa.” The right pathway depends on whether the goal is a short visit, skilled regional migration or a narrow Other Family category.

Three different meanings of “sponsor my brother”
These pathways have different eligibility tests and outcomes. Family relationship by itself is not enough.
Visitor 600 family visit
A brother or sister may support a temporary family visit through an invitation or, where eligible, the Sponsored Family stream.

Subclass 115 or 835 may apply only where the applicant meets the strict “only close family” and sponsorship requirements. These visas are capped and queued.
Family sponsorship is not a general shortcut to permanent residence. Many people with a sibling in Australia still need to qualify through their own skilled, employer, student, partner or other visa pathway.
Brother or sister sponsorship for subclass 491
The family-sponsored 491 is a provisional regional skilled visa. The sponsor and the skilled applicant each have separate requirements.
- The sponsor must be at least 18 and an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- The sponsor must usually reside in a designated regional area.
- Eligible relationships include a brother, sister, adoptive sibling or step-sibling; other listed relatives can also qualify.
- The applicant still needs a relevant occupation, skills assessment, English, points-tested EOI and invitation.
- The visa holder and included family must comply with the regional residence, work and study settings.
Inviting a brother or sister to visit
A Visitor 600 application is for a genuine temporary stay. The evidence must show the visit purpose, funding and reasons the applicant will comply with the authorised stay.
Tourist stream
The applicant can visit family and may include a letter of invitation without the relative becoming a formal sponsor.
Sponsored Family stream
An eligible brother or sister may formally sponsor the applicant. Home Affairs may request a security bond.
Applicant evidence
Travel purpose, itinerary, finances, employment, family circumstances, immigration history and home-country commitments remain important.
Temporary outcome
A Visitor visa does not give work rights or create permanent residence because a relative lives in Australia.
Remaining Relative visas are narrow and slow
Subclasses 115 and 835 are permanent visas for people whose only close family members meet the Australian residence settings. Having one brother in Australia does not automatically satisfy the test.
- Review every near relative of both the applicant and partner, including where they usually live and their visa status.
- An eligible Australian relative must sponsor the application and an Assurance of Support is required.
- Other Family visas are capped and queued; Home Affairs reports very lengthy processing estimates for new Remaining Relative cases.
- Subclass 115 and 835 have different applicant-location requirements.

- Is the goal a visit, work, study or permanent migration?
- What is the sibling relationship and what documents prove it?
- What Australian status does the sibling hold?
- Where does the sibling usually live?
- What are the applicant's age, occupation, qualifications, English and work history?
- Where do all close relatives of the applicant and partner live?
